Marty Murphy’s team that plays out of Owego Free Academy won a closely contested Sectional championship to advance to the USTA national championships in Surprise, AZ, in April, 2009.  On Sunday, August 24, 2008, in the last men’s 7.0 match of the weekend, the Murphy team needed to win to be the champions.  First Orville Wright and Dale Wise won their match 6-4, 7-5.  Then Murphy and his partner Bing Rauber won 7-6, 7-6, followed by Ed Farrell and John Paddick who won their match 6-1, 7-5, clinching the championship for Binghamton.
