Ladder Match Rules

BTC Ladder Match Rules

1. All matches will consist of a 9 game pro set. First to win 9 games is the winner and a tiebreaker at 8-8. No ad scoring will be used.

2. The tiebreaker will be at a 9-point format, first to win 5 points. If the tiebreaker gets to 4-4, then the next point wins.

3. Good sportsmanship will be displayed at all times. Anyone not cooperating will be removed from the ladder. Sportsmanship includes accurate line calls, good temperament, and overall appropriate tennis etiquette.

4. Unfortunately, time is a factor in these matches. At 5 minutes before the hour players must be aware of the time. Do not start any new games after this point.

5. The winning player will be responsible for reporting scares to the front desk. A score sheet will be provided.

6. Many times players are finished before the allotted time. In this case, we strongly encourage players to continue playing or just hitting. Although the extra play wont count towards the ladder, it is good practice.

Good luck to all players.

Welcome all new and returning players to the 2006 BTC Jr. Ladder. This year the ladder is divided into three groups: Bronze, Silver, and Gold. There will be a sign up sheet at the front desk every week. Players will be called on Fridays to be given their match time. If any player does sign up to play and does not show up for their match, they will be charged the $10.

The ladder will consist of regular season matches followed by a tournament for those that qualify. Regular season matches will be played from September 16th to December 2nd and on December 9th the tournament will begin. See attached sheet for rules of play.

Boys Jr. Ladder 2005-2006

After 12 weeks of matches it is time for the BTC Jr. Ladder tournament. Breaking the ladder into three different divisions (Bronze, Silver, and Gold) worked out very well this year. I am proud to say that our juniors played close to 100 matches total over the past 12 weeks and now that the regular season is over it's time to begin the tournament. There is a tournament for each division, Bronze(which is co-ed), Silver, and Gold and there are seeded players for each tournament.

Evan Vail and Charlotte Federowicz.jpg
Charlotte Federowicz of Vestal is seeded first for the Bronze and Kenny Friedman, also from Vestal, grabbed the second seed. Federowicz was undefeated during the regular season posting an 8-0 record and Friedman was close behind with a 9-2 record.

Jared Zonio and Artem Khrapko.jpg

Artem Khrapko of the Elmira-Horseheads area is seeded first in the Silver tournament and Jared Zonio of Union-Endicott is seeded second. Khrapko is a 10 year old who works very hard at his tennis game and will be busy playing ETA matches next year. Zonio a freshman at UE High School will be trying out for his varsity team this spring.

Alex Tsai and Jeff Swails.jpg

Jeff Swails of Vestal High School took the first seed in the Gold tournament and behind him is Nathan Kucko with the second seed in the tournament. Kucko played singles for the Chenango Forks Varstiy team last year. Jeff Swails played singles for Vestal in 2005 and is looking to do the same again this year.

Those are the first and second seeded players for this year based on their win loss record and/or their number of matches played. Unfortunately, some players did not make the eight player cut off in each division to enter the tournament. Those players that did make the tournament will be receiving calls this week with their match times.

Thank you to all players for joining the ladder this year and making it such a success. The boys Jr. Ladder for 2006 will start in September. The BTC Girl's Jr. Ladder will start Saturday January 28th

Updated Girls Ladder Information

2005 Girls Junior Ladder

Each Junior Ladder participant will play 8 matches with a different opponent each week:
January 8, 2005 February 26, 2005
January 15, 2005 March 5, 2005
January 29, 2005 March 12, 2005
February 5, 2005 March 19, 2005
February 12, 2005 April 2, 2005
February 19, 2005 April 9, 2005

Halfway through the Ladder I will determine if there is enough interest to play a tournament. It would still include the top 16 players and would take place April 16 and April 23.

Each match costs $8 per participant. You will play 8 game Pro-Sets (The first to 8 games, winning by 2 games) with No-Ad scoring. You play a 12 point tie-breaker at 8 all. (The first to 7 points, winning by 2 points) If you finish before the hour is up, please continue to play for the extra practice. If you have any questions regarding the scoring format please call me 722-3491.

If you have a conflict that you know of in advance, please contact your opponent as soon as possible. Everyone should remember that we are playing for the match experience. Please try to be accommodating by rescheduling your match if your opponent gives you 5 days or more notice. The player who cannot make the scheduled match time will lose by default. If you absolutely cannot make a match on short notice make every effort to reach your opponent and/or the Tennis Center (722-3491)

You will notice that there are more girls involved this year. Therefore, we have had to make adjustments in scheduling. Matches were originally scheduled to be played at 4 pm, 5 pm, 6 pm and 7 pm; however we have a scheduling conflict with Senior USTA Mixed Doubles league. Therefore, we have had to extend the ladder an extra 4 weeks to complete all of the matches. No longer will everyone be playing each weekend, so if you have a conflict please let me know and I will do my best to reschedule your match for a different weekend. You are still able to reschedule any matches on your own, but please let the tennis center know so we aren’t wasting court time.

For any questions or concerns throughout the ladder please call me 722-3491.

Thanks
Libby

All of this information and weekly results will be posted on the Tennis Center website www.tennisctr.com

Adam is 15, and attends Vestal High School. He has been playing tennis since he was 4. Inside look at Adam:
Favorite Movie: Office Space

Girls State Qualifer

The Girl's High School State Qualfier was held this past October 22 & 23 right here at BTC. As usual, there was some very good tennis, and spectators were treated to the best of the Southern Tier. Many of our BTC juniors competed and fared well. The top 3 finishers in both singles and doubles advanced to the States held at East Side Tennis Club in Syracuse.

GirlsState qualifer Carly Smith.JPG runner up Carly Smith, BCHS junior
Lucy Mehrabyan of Ithaca won the singles title, defeating BTC veteran Carly Smith of BCHS in 3 sets. Lucy was a surprise winner, and is only in 7th grade. I am sure we will see more of Lucy in the future. Vanessa Rumpel (SCC) & edged out Jen Kucko, (CF) for 3rd place. Jen is an up and coming familiar face at BTC.

.

Girls State Qualifer CV doubles.JPG Doubles runner ups Brittney Williams & Alex Moore, advanced to the states.
Doubles winners were Kate Doyle & Taryn Lindquist (Elmira Notre Dame) who defeated Brittney Williams and Alex Moore,(Chenango Valley) two more BTC proteges. 3rd place went to the BCHS pair of Brett Lane (BTC frequenter) & Danielle Kashou. Special thanks to Carole Bramante, Section 1V co-ordinator for her efforts in running the event. Her expertise and easy going manner always help make the event a good one.

Junior Ladder Tournamnet

BTC ladder Brit ,Jen ,Wing Kay ,Danielle.jpg
(Pictured L-R Williams 1st place, Kucko 3rd, Leung 2nd, Kashou 4th)

Brittany Williams' win over U-E's Wing Kay Leung in the final earns her the Girls Jr. Ladder title for the third straight year. Both girls battled hard and played some great tennis in the final. Williams is a junior in high school and plays 1st singles for the Chenango Valley Warriors. This year was an atypical start for Williams as she lost a few matches in the early stages of the ladder, but bounced back strong in the second half of the regular season and in the tournament to win it all.

Both matches in the semifinal round were close and also full of great tennis. One semifinal match had Leung up against Danielle Kashou and after a tough 9-7 win, Leung moved on to the final. Kashou, a sinlges player for Seton CC last year as an 8th grader, played well this year, but was disappointed with her 4th place finish......She'll be back.

The other semifinal match produced one of the grittiest performances I've seen in a long time. After badly spraining her ankle just days before the match, Jennifer Kucko went out and gave the 3-time Ladder champ all she could handle. Hobbling in between points Jen went on to battle Williams in a close 9-7 match, but came up short to the eventual champ. Kucko was given the opportunity to withdraw from the semifinal, but refused and went on to play anyway. Not only did she play the semi, but also came right back out after the match and played for 3rd and 4th place. Once again declining the opportunity to forfeit she went on to play and won the match earning her 3rd place!!!!! If the Ladder had a "Warrior of the Year" award Jen Kucko would have won it hands down.

Congratulations to all Ladder players this year. Once again the Ladder was a success that involved good fun, good match experience, and tough competition. Thank you to all parents and players that participated and we look forward to next year.

Girls Jr. Ladder Week 5 & 6 Results

Katie Burns and Wing Kay Leung remain undefeated after their victories this weekend during week 6 of the Girl's Ladder. Katie is 4-0 in Group A as is Wing Kay in group B with the same 4-0 record. Both gilrs I'm sure are looking to improve their record to 5-0 this Saturday (3/27).

Burns and Leung were not the only players with solid wins this weekend: Arianna Stenta, Ashley Feyler, and Leigh Ann Hiser also played well to win their matches on Saturday. Brittany Williams, Danielle Kashou, and Emily Dura also came out on top again this weekend. Well done girls. Below are the scores from all of the matches:

Feyler def. Bucker 9-1
Williams def. Karlgut 9-3
Leung def. Edwards 9-1
Stenta def. Stanley 9-6
Burns def. Burroughs 9-4
Dura def. Santosh 9-5
Hiser def. Pinker 9-2
Kashou def. Caporali 9-2

There are two weeks left for the regular season girls. For those players eligible, the tournament will begin on April 24th . There is plenty of time to make up matches in the next few weeks. Call Collin at 722-3491 to make sure you get as many make up matches as possible. Good luck next week.

Brittany Williams and Beth Edwards played the match of the week this past Saturday. Williams squeaked out the victory after a long match point to notch her first victory of the season. This could be the match that turns things around for Williams this year who has struggled so far after winning the ladder last year. Other impressive wins include: Kucko over Stenta, Stanley over Caporali, and Hiser over Burroughs. Burroughs did bounce back in her second match of the night to get a win over Danille Foster. Foster is coming off of an ankle injury that happened week 2 when she took over for Alyssa Scoville. Below are the scores:

Karlgut def. Moore 9-2
Santosh def. Foster 8-5
Hiser def. Burroughs 9-5
Thomas def. Dura 8-5
Kucko def. Stenta 9-3
Williams def. Edwards 9-7
Stanley def. Caporali 9-3
Burroughs def. Foster 9-1
Hartzell def. Bucker 8-4

There are still several matches to be made up and the Easter Break is a great time to do so. It is ok to schedule make-up times and matches on your own, just keep Collin informed of times and results. Collin will also be trying to schedule make-up matches. Nice job girls. Check the website again for results from week 6.

Girls Jr. Ladder Week 3

Although week three of the ladder had only had seven matches, four of them were pretty good battles. Emily Dura defeated Katie Burns 9-5 to earn her second victory of the year. Katie avenged her loss in her second singles match of the night when she defeated up-and-comer Leigh Ann Hiser. Leigh Ann was victorious in her first singles match of the night when she defeated Andrea Bucker of Vestal.

Wing Kay Leung showed another solid effort when she defeated Danielle Kashou from Seton CC, 9-7. The comeback of the year already goes to Alexis Stanley in her loss to last year's runner-up, Jennifer Kucko. Jennifer had a commanding 8-0 lead until Alexis won the Duece point of the eighth game. The two then proceeded to battle until the score was 8-7, when Jennifer pulled it out in the 16th game to win, 9-7. What a match!! All of week three reults are below.

Karlgut def. Stenta 9-5
Hiser def. Bucker 9-3
Hartzell def. Pinker 9-4
Dura def. Burns 9-5
Burns def. Hiser 9-1

Jr Ladder Final Rounds

Aravapalli beats Lowenstein in a great match to win the boys Jr. Ladder. The last weekend of the ladder ended with two very close battles, one in the semifinal and one in the final. On the bottom half of the draw, Lowenstein came from behind to beat Yousuf in a tie-breaker to earn his spot in the final. On the top half of the draw, Aravapalli earned his spot in the final by defeating Amin 9-4.

Amin had a great season this year. He placed fourth in the final weekend and only lost one regular season match, putting his final record at 8-3. Yousuf captured third after defeating Amin in the battle for third and fourth place. In the semis, Yousuf was three points away from returning to the final for the third straight year.

In the final, Lowenstein tried for another comeback as he did in the semis, but fell just short as Aravapalli won 9-8, 5-2 in the tiebreaker. On match point after a long rally, Scottie went for the big forehand and missed it long. Aravapalli held tough to finish off his season in first place with a 9-1 record.

Congratulations and thank you to all players who participated on the Jr. Ladder this year. Also, thank you again to the parents for their support as well. We look forward to doing it again next year.
