Alison Cosham Winchell and her 6.0 senior mixed doubles team traveled to Orlando, Florida, to compete in the USTA National Eastern Championships on November 16-18. From left: Alan Winchell, Bing Rauber, Genet Meers, Alison, Mini Daub, John Normile, and Leo O’ Connor. (Missing: Marilyn Stine.) The first opponent — the Caribbean (Puerto Rico) — was a super strong team who beat us and ended up winning the championship. We next played the Midwest, where Genet and Bing had a substantial win at 6-2, 6-1, but the other two couples had two tie-break losses. We lost our final match against Florida. In spite of this, everyone agreed it was a good experience, and a chance to spend a few days in the sun.

Did you know Captain Jack Sparrow plays tennis?
Resident Head Pro Billy Mendler as Captain Jack Sparrow. Very scary don’t you think? Here are some pics of life on Halloween at BTC. Who says we don’t get trick or’ treaters? Who can identify our mystery guest in the lounge, demanding candy and tennis balls for ransom? A free can of tennis balls are in store for the first correct winner. All in all, a typical Halloween at BTC!
