(Pictured L-R Williams 1st place, Kucko 3rd, Leung 2nd, Kashou 4th)
Brittany Williams’ win over U-E’s Wing Kay Leung in the final earns her the Girls Jr. Ladder title for the third straight year. Both girls battled hard and played some great tennis in the final. Williams is a junior in high school and plays 1st singles for the Chenango Valley Warriors. This year was an atypical start for Williams as she lost a few matches in the early stages of the ladder, but bounced back strong in the second half of the regular season and in the tournament to win it all.
Both matches in the semifinal round were close and also full of great tennis. One semifinal match had Leung up against Danielle Kashou and after a tough 9-7 win, Leung moved on to the final. Kashou, a sinlges player for Seton CC last year as an 8th grader, played well this year, but was disappointed with her 4th place finish……She’ll be back.
The other semifinal match produced one of the grittiest performances I’ve seen in a long time. After badly spraining her ankle just days before the match, Jennifer Kucko went out and gave the 3-time Ladder champ all she could handle. Hobbling in between points Jen went on to battle Williams in a close 9-7 match, but came up short to the eventual champ. Kucko was given the opportunity to withdraw from the semifinal, but refused and went on to play anyway. Not only did she play the semi, but also came right back out after the match and played for 3rd and 4th place. Once again declining the opportunity to forfeit she went on to play and won the match earning her 3rd place!!!!! If the Ladder had a “Warrior of the Year” award Jen Kucko would have won it hands down.
Congratulations to all Ladder players this year. Once again the Ladder was a success that involved good fun, good match experience, and tough competition. Thank you to all parents and players that participated and we look forward to next year.

Katie Burns and Wing Kay Leung remain undefeated after their victories this weekend during week 6 of the Girl’s Ladder. Katie is 4-0 in Group A as is Wing Kay in group B with the same 4-0 record. Both gilrs I’m sure are looking to improve their record to 5-0 this Saturday (3/27).
Burns and Leung were not the only players with solid wins this weekend: Arianna Stenta, Ashley Feyler, and Leigh Ann Hiser also played well to win their matches on Saturday. Brittany Williams, Danielle Kashou, and Emily Dura also came out on top again this weekend. Well done girls. Below are the scores from all of the matches:
Feyler def. Bucker 9-1
Williams def. Karlgut 9-3
Leung def. Edwards 9-1
Stenta def. Stanley 9-6
Burns def. Burroughs 9-4
Dura def. Santosh 9-5
Hiser def. Pinker 9-2
Kashou def. Caporali 9-2
There are two weeks left for the regular season girls. For those players eligible, the tournament will begin on April 24th . There is plenty of time to make up matches in the next few weeks. Call Collin at 722-3491 to make sure you get as many make up matches as possible. Good luck next week.
Brittany Williams and Beth Edwards played the match of the week this past Saturday. Williams squeaked out the victory after a long match point to notch her first victory of the season. This could be the match that turns things around for Williams this year who has struggled so far after winning the ladder last year. Other impressive wins include: Kucko over Stenta, Stanley over Caporali, and Hiser over Burroughs. Burroughs did bounce back in her second match of the night to get a win over Danille Foster. Foster is coming off of an ankle injury that happened week 2 when she took over for Alyssa Scoville. Below are the scores:
Karlgut def. Moore 9-2
Santosh def. Foster 8-5
Hiser def. Burroughs 9-5
Thomas def. Dura 8-5
Kucko def. Stenta 9-3
Williams def. Edwards 9-7
Stanley def. Caporali 9-3
Burroughs def. Foster 9-1
Hartzell def. Bucker 8-4
There are still several matches to be made up and the Easter Break is a great time to do so. It is ok to schedule make-up times and matches on your own, just keep Collin informed of times and results. Collin will also be trying to schedule make-up matches. Nice job girls. Check the website again for results from week 6.

Kiran has shown substantial improvement over the past year, beating kids he had previously lost to and displaying much improved consistency. He attributes his recent success simply to an increased dedication and amount of time he spends onthe court.
