Our 5th Annual Gennett/Sambursly Mens Pro-Am took place Saturday, February 23 and once again was a great success. Amatuers did an admirable job tried to not show up their pros too bad. Our pros came up with their usual array of touch shots, deft volleys and between the leg winners.

In the end, Kris Shumway & Karl Keuhn prevailed in the finals over Jordy Asher & Jeff Conklin 10-8 in a super tiebreak. The tennis was a lot of fun, and spectators and players alike all had a good time. Karl Kuehn broke Parker Gennett’s 4 year amateur winning streak, thus avoiding sending Paker up to the pro ranks by virture of our newly drafted 5 year in a row rule. It might have helped that due to a plane delay, Parker could not participate this year!

We would like to thank or sponsors Dan Sambursky & Parker Gennett. We all appreciate their generosity.

From left: Alan Winchell, Bing Rauber, Genet Meers, Alison, Mini Daub, John Normile, and Leo O’ Connor. (Missing: Marilyn Stine.) The first opponent — the Caribbean (Puerto Rico) — was a super strong team who beat us and ended up winning the championship. We next played the Midwest, where Genet and Bing had a substantial win at 6-2, 6-1, but the other two couples had two tie-break losses. We lost our final match against Florida. In spite of this, everyone agreed it was a good experience, and a chance to spend a few days in the sun.

Very scary don’t you think? Here are some pics of life on Halloween at BTC. Who says we don’t get trick or’ treaters? Who can identify our mystery guest in the lounge, demanding candy and tennis balls for ransom? A free can of tennis balls are in store for the first correct winner. All in all, a typical Halloween at BTC!
