The following rules have been established to ensure the safety and enjoyment of all participants, and to preserve our tennis facilities for their intended use. Cooperation of all participants is appreciated. The staff has been hired to enforce all facility rules and regulations. Participants who notice violations of rules/regulations/policy are asked to bring it to the attention of the staff. 

• Please be respectful of others throughout the facility.

  • Vacate your court at the end of your court rental to allow other members to start their use of the court rental on time.

  • Leave the courts clean, balls picked up, and trash/recycleables disposed of in the correct receptacles.

    • Do not dump liquids out in the garbage/recycleables containers

    • Spitting, inappropriate language, verbal abuse and fighting will not be tolerated.

• Athletic attire and clean, non-marking athletic footwear are required at all times.

  • Shirts must remain on at all times and are required to meet the waistband. Clothing that exposes the torso, stomach, back, or chest (such as sports bras, crop tops or excessively loose bare-midriff clothing) are prohibited.

  • Modest, full-coverage athletic shorts, skirts or pants are recommended, avoiding excessively short styles.

  • Clothing with profane language and/or offensive graphics is not allowed

    • Athletic shoes with clean, dry non-marking soles must be worn at all times. Open-toe shoes (including casts), sandals, boots, cleats, or bare feet are not permitted.

• In order to keep facilities clean and safe for use, please wipe feet when entering the building.

  • Users are encouraged to change out of street shoes before entering the tennis court area. Especially during the winter months as salt is damaging to the tennis court surface.

• Participants should attend to matters of personal hygiene as well as the cleanliness of workout wear.

  • Personal hygiene is expected to maintain a comfortable environment for all patrons.

• Pets/Service Animals

  • Pets and animals are not allowed in the Lane - Starke Tennis Center. An exception is made regarding certified service animals for guests with disabilities. Service dogs must be leashed or securely tethered and under control at all times during your visit.

  • Service animals are defined as dogs that are individually trained to do work or perform tasks for people with disabilities. Under the ADA, service animals must be harnessed, leashed or tethered, unless the individual’s disability prevents using these devices or these devices interfere with the service animal’s safe, effective performance of tasks.

• Smoking, vaping smokeless tobacco, alcoholic beverages and gum are not permitted. 

  • Binghamton University is a Tobacco and Smoke-Free Campus, which applies to the Lane-Starke Tennis Center

    • Beverage containers must have a screw-on lid.

      • At times Gatorade and water are provided on the court with cups by the LSTC staff

      • All cups must be thrown out after each use.

      • Please ensure that no cups are left with Gatorade on the court to limit spills

        • Gatorade left in cups and spills attract bees to the outdoor facility

  • Gum is not permitted on the tennis courts.

• Only Lane-Starke Tennis Center staff is permitted to instruct in the facility.  No patron is allowed to receive training from a person unaffiliated with the Lane-Starke Tennis Center. It is a liability to allow people unaffiliated with Lane-Starke Tennis Center to instruct patrons. We cannot guarantee that outside "instructors" have the skills, knowledge, or necessary certifications. We enforce this rule to provide the safest environment possible for our patrons.

• Courts, equipment and facilities should be used for their intended purpose. 

  • Modification is prohibited. Please report equipment malfunction or damage to a staff member.

  • Rosin bags and tacky towels are recommended

    • Use of loose chalk is not allowed, as it not possible to get it off the court 

• Any person who maliciously uses, damages or defaces courts, equipment or facilities. violates any stated rule, or fails to cooperate with staff will be asked to leave.

• Respect for the personal privacy and safety of all members, guests, and participants must be maintained at all times. The use of any device to photograph, record, monitor or videotape in the locker rooms, restrooms is not permitted without authorization. Conversations using Skype, FaceTime, and other photos/video communications may be conducted only outside of these areas, in common spaces.

• Photography and videography are only allowed with prior authorization by Lane-Starke Tennis Center management.
